Why are We Playing Nice?
Saving democracy will require a Herculean feat by all of us but especially elected Democrats. But to this day, Dems continue to play nice in the pursuit of bipartisanship, even in light of the fact that the entire Republican Party and GOP base has abandoned democracy. Why do we still do that? They have become radicalized and violent. Many people were afraid to put out their signs for fear of the MAGA rage. They’re always so angry. So why do we play nice with that?
It’s been said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. By that definition, the Democratic Party must be insane. For years they have tried to play nice with the Republican Party in hopes of bipartisanship, even though Republicans have shown time and time again that they are not interested in democracy.
They have allowed the GOP to frame the debate in terms that are beneficial to them, while Democrats are always on the defense. They have allowed TV personalities to ask tough questions of themselves but allow Republicans to lie unchecked. Republicans have gotten the lie down perfect, which is quite amazing since they usually put themselves out as “Christians”
And they continue to allow Republicans to lead the way on issues, even though it is clear that Republicans are not interested in governing or saving democracy . It’s time for Democrats to wake up and realize that bipartisanship is not possible with a party that is hell-bent on destroying democracy. It’s time for them to start playing hardball and call out the GOP for their hypocrisy, lies, and lack of interest in governing. Only then will they be able to make progress on the issues that matter to Americans.
2. Take the Gloves Off
Democrats have long been known as the party of negotiation and collaboration. But in the face of an increasingly right-wing Republican Party, some believe it is time for the Democrats to show some teeth if they want to be part of saving democracy. After all, the GOP has shown time and time again that they are not afraid to fight dirty. If the Democrats want to win, they need to stop playing nice and start fighting harder.
This doesn’t mean engaging in personal attacks or mudslinging, but it does mean standing up for what they believe in and taking a strong stance against their opponents. The base of the Democratic Party is watching and waiting to see if their leaders have the guts to take on the GOP. 3. Press Forward!
In order to beat Republicans at their own game, Democrats need to show strength and take the fight to them. For too long, Democrats have played nice while Republicans have gone on the offensive, repeating lies until they become truth. It’s time for Democrats to get together regularly, agree on an attack message, and stick to it. This will show Republicans that they’re not going to back down or take their attacks lying down. no more being oft and docile. Bullies don’t respect weakness. It will also give Democrats an example to follow when they’re talking to their base. Stop playing nice and fighting fair – it’s time to lay it all on the line and show that Democrats are willing to fight harder saving democracy than before.
4. Lying is their strategy
It’s a sad reality that in today’s political climate, lies are often more effective than the truth. This is especially true when it comes to the Republicans and their right-wing media allies. They have mastered the art of lying, and they use it to great effect to push their agenda. The only way to counter this is with persistent and bold truth-telling.
Democrats need to get better at calling out lies, and they need to do it in a way that is simple and easy for others to understand. This is where people like Pete Buttigieg come in. He has shown time and time again that he is not afraid to go into the lion’s den and speak truth to power. If more Democrats were half as good as him, we would be in a much better place.
Remember, repetition becomes truth. The more we call out Republican lies, the more people will start to believe the truth, again. Trump really fucked that shit up.
5. Be Everywhere
In today’s media landscape, it’s more important than ever for Democrats to get their message out on as many platforms as possible. That means appearing on local news shows, cable news programs, and especially right-wing media outlets. It might seem like a daunting task, but it’s imperative if we want to reach voters who might only be exposed to one side of the story.
Republicans are very good at getting their message out there – they’re everywhere. They appear on all the major news programs and they fill the void on local news shows. As a result, they’re able to control the narrative and present themselves as the only reasonable option. And because we are not there to refute it.
Democrats need to counter this by being proactive and reaching out to all the different media outlets. We need to speak truth to lies and call them out when we see or hear them. We need to go into the lion’s den and show people that there is better way.
It won’t be easy, but it’s essential if we want to save this democracy.
